Chapter Six

“Is he stuck with me? Or is there some way to undo this?” Alexander asked.

He doubted the answer was going to be something he wanted to hear, but he had to try anyway.

Derek rubbed a large hand over his face. The man looked as though he hadn’t gotten any sleep in a while, and it was enough to make Alexander wonder what he’d missed over the last three years.

The smell of Akira, Derek’s former mate, was gone, completely replaced with Tom’s scent, but there were still hints that the fox shifter had once lived here. There was a picture frame here and there depicting Akira and Derek, and they were placed on the walls and on the countertops, right beside the pictures of Tom and Derek. There was clearly no problem in the house about having both. Some of the furniture was the same. Others were different. The green reading chair that Akira had made was still in the corner, but other items had been moved around or replaced over the years.

It was kind of surreal.

Three years. And to think that he’d still be out there in the woods if Jeremy hadn’t told him the truth.

“If you bit him, then I think that’s enough. He’s your mate. You picked him. Unless one of you dies, there’s no severing this,” Derek said.

Although he’d thought about it for a minute, as a way of escaping the shame he’d heaped on himself, there was no way in hell that Alexander was going to start planning his own death.

He still sighed and leaned back in his chair, wondering what he was going to tell that kid, how he was supposed to fix this.

Archeron, ever the wonderful, loyal bastard that he was, put his hand on Alexander’s shoulder. “You didn’t mean for it to happen. Your wolf was in control. It’s all right.”

“It’s not all right,” Alexander snapped, shrugging Archeron’s hand off of him.

He immediately regretted it. Archeron didn’t look hurt or anything, but Alexander really did need the friendly acceptance right about now.

He wasn’t about to beg for it though. He was still on his feet, standing, despite the fact that there were chairs in the room. Everyone was standing. No one really wanted to take a seat and relax.

“For God’s sake, when I woke up and realized what was happening, that it was real, I thought he was still sixteen. I thought I’d fucked a minor. I was so sick afterwards…”

“He’s nineteen. He’s not a little kid,” Archeron said. “Omegas have been claimed by alphas who were a lot rougher than you thought you were.”

“It doesn’t matter. We’re supposed to be better than that. I’m not a rogue alpha.”

“Technically, after you left the pack, you did become one,” Derek said. “Not to mention the fact that you said you were out of it for the most part. This sounds like your wolf was running on instinct. That has made for some dubiously consented matings before in the past.”

“I don’t want to be one of them!” Alexander snapped.
